User guide

Welcome to the level life. Setting up your Wonkometer takes about ten minutes, and you only ever do it once. Here's everything, step by step.

What's in the box

  • Wonkometer Bluetooth sensor
  • Quick-start guide

Step 1 — Fit the sensor

The Wonkometer reads your van's tilt, so where and how it's mounted matters more than anything else in this guide. Four rules:

  • Keep it dry. The sensor is not waterproof — it must live somewhere dry inside the vehicle. A cupboard, locker or bed box is perfect; the A-frame, the underside, or anywhere rain and splashes can reach is not.
  • Pick a rigid spot. Mount it to something solid that's part of the vehicle's structure — the side of a fixed cabinet, a battery compartment, the wall of a bed box. Avoid anything bendy: a flexible panel flexes with heat and travel, and a sensor on a wobbly surface reports wobbly numbers.
  • Keep it square. Fit the sensor with the top facing up and the arrow pointing forward— lined up with the direction of travel. Don't worry if its wonky; we'll fix that in the app!
  • Check the signal first. Before fixing anything down permanently, hold the sensor in your chosen spot and make sure the app connects happily from where you'll actually be standing — the driver's seat, or beside the jockey wheel. Happy? Fix it in place with the supplied screws

A cupboard ticks every box: dry, rigid, hidden and out of mischief.

Step 2 — Pair the app

Download the free Wonkometer app for iOS or Android. Open Settings (the cog), tap Pair Device, and pick your Wonkometer from the list. When the screen says Paired, Connected, you're talking. From then on it reconnects automatically whenever the app is open and the sensor is in range — no rummaging in your phone's Bluetooth menu.

Step 3 — Set your level

This teaches the Wonkometer what "perfect" feels like for your van. One tap, once, done:

  1. Get the van properly level by any means you like — ramps, blocks, a trusted spirit level, sheer persistence.
  2. In Settings, tap Set Level.

That position is now your zero, and everything the app tells you from here on is relative to it. Moved the sensor, changed vans, or calibrated against a dodgy "level" pitch? Tap Reset Level Offset in Settings to wipe the slate and start again.

Step 4 — Tell it your wheel distances

This is the secret behind the Wonkometer's party trick — instructions in honest centimetres instead of mysterious degrees. In Settings, tap Set Wheel Distance and enter two measurements:

  • Left ↔ right: the distance between your left and right wheels, in centimetres.
  • Front ↔ back: the front-to-back distance — wheelbase for vans and motorhomes; stabilising legs for caravans and trailers.

Tape measure, two numbers, Save. The app does the trigonometry forever after.

Step 5 — Choose your vehicle

In Settings, tap Choose Van and pick whichever one you've fitted it to — campervan, motorhome, caravan or trailer. The levelling screen then shows your actual setup, side to side and front to back, rather than a generic blob.

Using it on pitch

Park where you want to be and open the app. The levelling screen shows both axes with live readings. "Level on this axis" means leave that one alone. "Raise left by 9cm" means exactly that — put 9cm of ramp under the left wheel, drive on, and watch the reading tick round to 0°. Kettle on.
